We had a good crowd last Sunday night for the launch of our new Sunday evening program. For those of you who were not there, here is a brief rundown...
F.I.S.H. stands for a four-week rotation of what we do each week. The rotating schedule is meant to keep things fresh and to give us a chance to do things the church is supposed to do. The goal is to move us to application of Scripture and action toward loving one another and reaching our community for Christ.
Everyone is part of a FISHing "crew" that is "in the same boat" (really, at the same table in the fellowship hall right now). You will be working together as a team--just like fishermen of Jesus' time pulled the nets as a team we will be "net-fishing" for people as a team. I pray that in these crews, real community, vulnerability, and love will grow as the team works and struggles together.
Week 1 of every month is "F for Focus" week. The goal of this week is to have a chance to really pray over the people in our lives that are not living in faith and obedience to Jesus Christ and to ask God to use us to draw them to Himself. It's also an opportunity to look one another in the eye and ask, "How are you really doing?" and to pray for one another through struggles, and for individual growth in Christ.
Week 2 of every month is "I for Impartation (of Information or Inspiration as we look Inwardly)" week. This is a chance to learn a little about our mission, what we ought to be doing, where we are falling short, and what God has empowered us to do about it. This week is generally a teaching week, with a chance to interact and discuss with your "crew."
Week 3 is "S for Strategy and Sharing" week. This week is when we really get into the nitty-gritty of the question of "how." How are we doing reaching people for Christ? How are we doing in loving one another? How are we going to do better--what strategies will we use? This week takes theory to the real world so that we will be ready for week 4...
Week 4 is "Hands and Feet" week. This week is when we may or may not even meet at the church at all. Your crew may choose to do your "Hands and Feet" activity on Friday or Saturday or earlier on Sunday. Many of these activities will take place in your homes. This is the week when we will be out doing ministry, sometimes prayerwalking, sometimes visiting, sometimes having a fellowship in someone's home that you can invite a new person to--any number of things. It will usually be up to your crew to decide what you want to do. Just do it as the hands and feet of Jesus in this world!
On Sunday night, there were a number of people who looked a little afraid. It is natural to be nervous about change and stepping out and doing something new. But we are going to do this together. God has not asked anything of us that he has not equipped us to do. Part of that equipping is that He has given us the support of one another. And when we step beyond what we believe we can do on our own, that's when we discover what God can do. Let's find out together!
